Here are summaries of the upcoming IMC shows which have been moved to other venues. |
The rumors of our demise have been exagerated! Although the
performance space at the IMC has been shut down by the City of Urbana, the IMC is still presenting performaces at other All Ages venues in Urbana-Champaign. The entire folk music series has been moved to the Channing-Murray (which is the space above the Red Herring restraunt at 1209 W. Oregon in Urbana (near campus)). All shows are at 8pm.
Saturday, May 24th - G. Lee and Jet Blonde and Ellen Rosner
Acoustic Indie-Rock from two of Illinois' premier
singer-songwriters. Ellen Rosner hails from Chicago where it seems everyone I've met who knows the acoustic music scene knows and loves her. She's played at the IMC and for Grrrlfest many times in the past and we're very glad to have her back. G. Lee combines her fantastic singer-songwriter sensibilities with Jet Blonde, which is made up of some of the top musicians in Chambana (Andy Lund, Ian Shepherd, Peter Roubal, Dawna Nelson, Chad Dunn). A rocking good kick off to the memorial day weekend.

Monday, June 2nd - Bitch and Animal
Bitch and Animal are a completely unique performance artist
speaking-singing pair. This duo has recently opened many shows for Ani DiFranco, and was featured in Ani's DVD release "Render". They play dozens of instruments and perform in even more styles during their set which is guaranteed to inspire. Bitch and Animal's career has been catapulted by their recent Righteous Babe release and touring with Ani. You may very well never again have a chance to see Bitch and Animal in a venue as intimate as the Channing-Murray (which holds only 135 people). Get your advance tickets now from Record Service (621 E. Green St, Champaign), Record Swap (110 S. Race St, Urbana), and Dandelion (9 Taylor St, Champaign).
Doors at 8pm. Show at 9pm.

Saturday, June 14th - Ripley Caine, Doria Roberts, Eleni Moraites
"When life knocks you down, [Ripley] is what you listen to just before you pick yourself and get back in the fight." - rebecca - grrrlfest 2002
"Just a girl and her guitar can sometimes blast above the rowdiest rock. That's the case with Doria Roberts. Her lyrical wisdom and simple strums combine to make for one grooving gig. Roberts' music is both political and emotionally savvy." - Curve Magazine

Tuesday, June 17th - Holly Figueroa and Joni Laurence
"Holly Figueroa's roots run deep into the murky waters of American music, touching on gospel, folk, jazz, avant-garde and Americana."

Saturday June 21st - MJ Walker and Fictive Kin and Buster's Dream
Enjoy the honest bluesy porch music of these two amazing folk
groups. Fictive Kin is an easy going musical family. They're among the finest folkies on the Chambana scene. Buster's Dream has a high and lonesome mountain folk sound with hints of Woody Guthrie.
Saturday, June 28th - Adam Brodsky
Anti-Folk! Outrageous, dorky, in your face songsmithing. If you like Dan Bern or Hamell on Trial, you'll love Adam Brodsky. If you hate Adam Brodsky, you'll love Adam Brodsky!
