Stealth Board Members Of Provena Covenant Are Revealed |

In the past, Diane Friedman, the CEO of Provena Covenant
Medical Center in Urbana, Illinois, refused to reveal the identities of the local Board of Directors of the same
organization to local community organizations, clients,
or members of the press. Because many members of
the community and some staff members had concerns with the
policies and priorities of top management at this
organization, the veil of secrecy surrounding the
identities of the Board Members was viewed as an impediment
to resolving many of these concerns. Normally, the Board
Members of an organization are able to exercise some
influence over the policies that are implemented by top
management. Furthermore, by keeping the identities of
Board Members a secret, there is the risk of cronyism
and conflicts of interest occurring that may not be in
the best interest of either Provena Covenant or members
of the community.
The identities of the local Board of Directors at Provena
Covenant Medical Center have come to my attention, and I
think members of the community have the right to know who
these people are. This is, after all, an organization that
is exempt from paying local property taxes, as well as
corporate income taxes at the state and federal levels.
This organization also solicits donations and receives
assistance from many volunteers within the community.
