A group of lawyers on the Champaign County Board has been plotting to kidnap the statue of Lincoln from Carle Park, across from Urbana High School. They intend to hold him hostage at the courthouse when the massive new addition currently under construction is completed. It’s a move that seems to have at its root their desire to promote the association of Lincoln with present-day lawyers, something which probably has the old fellow spinning in his grave. |
Citizens of all political views in the Carle Park neighborhood have united in petitioning the Urbana Park District Board to change its tentative initial approval of kidnapping Lincoln for the benefit of local lawyers and judges. They claim to have over 400 signatures in opposition to this move and in support of Lincoln staying where he is now..
The Champaign County Board County Facilities Committee will be holding a public hearing Thursday, June 14 at 7:00 pm at the Brookens Center, 1776 East Washington St. in Urbana. Citizens are encouraged to attend and stop this crime in its tracks by speaking out against the proposed move.
I’m certain that Lincoln would much rather chill with young folks where he is now than with the stuffed-shirts who hang out at the County Courthouse while administering the racist county "justice" system. I can think of few worse ways to disrespect Lincoln than to have him oversee the endless parade of young black victims of the Drug War marched across the street in chains that he would have to look down over daily if he was moved to the courthouse. I think that this sight would break his heart and would be something he would speak out against. |
