News :: Globalization
Resistance To Globalisation in Greece Current rating: 0
05 May 2006
Modified: 10:54:23 AM
Athens is currently hosting the European Social Forum. At the same time it is host to the Libertarian, Anarchist, Anti-Authoritarian Forum.
I am in Athens and will be attending as much as possible at both the ESF and the corollary Libertarian, Anarchist, Anti-Authoritarian Forum. I have included basic info and links below!

The premise of the European Social Forum:

The 4th European Social Forum will be taking place in Athens-Greece on the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th of May 2006. The European Social Forum is, alongside Genoa and Seattle, one of the major events of the movement against neoliberal globalization and war, deregulation of labor and poverty, climate change and environmental destruction, violation of democratic rights and sexism, racism and the threat of the far right. Tens of thousands of activists participated in the first, second and third European Social Forums which took place in Florence (2002), Paris (2003) and London (2004).

The same will happen in May 2006: thousands of activists from all around Europe will meet in Athens in order to discuss about the perspectives of "the movement of the movements", exchange their experiences from their struggle and organize coordination and solidarity networks.

We have marched together against the G8, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Prague, in Genoa, in Evian. We took part, all together, in the siege of the European Union Summits in Thessalonica, Nice, Seville, Brussels. We met during the huge antiwar rallies on the 15th of February 2003, in the mass demonstrations against racism, in working class mobilizations defending pensions, public health and education, in rallies against the destruction of the environment, the "anti"terrorist laws and repression.

The premises of the Libertarian, Anarchist and Anti-Authortarian Forum:

On the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th of May 2006 we organize the Libertarian, Anarchist and Antiauthoritarian Forum, in Athens (at the Polytechnic School, “Gini” building) in Greece, based on the following points:

- Total rejection of Capitalism and State, as forms of violent and coerced social organization, responsible for the economic and social impoverishment of humanity as well as for the ecological destruction of the earth. Today, Capitalism and State are today carrying the so-called “War on Terror”, sowing death, imposing military occupation, building torture camps and intensifying looting of the Global South. They are responsible for murdering and expulsion of refugees and immigrants, for savage exploitation, for the effort to impose militarism on societies and for exercising repression and control over fighters and the oppressed people in the western metropoles. They exclude the exploited people of the goods they produce and denote humans into commodities subject to the laws of the marketing.

- Against Capitalism and State, we enact self-organized social struggles against their political substitute and mediation and against any kind of consent to domination. We reject every form of hierarchy, authority, enforcement, ascendancy and hegemony, either as means to subdue society generally or as means to manipulate social struggles.

- We enact social solidarity in our fight against any kind of fabricated ideology such as racism, sexism and nationalism which function as a means of reproducing the State and Capitalism, creating fake separations.

- We fight for a society of equality and liberation of people, without classes and states, without prisons and borders, without exploitation and oppression.
