"The National Case to Impeach President George Bush, Jr."
Featuring Professor Francis A. Boyle
Tuesday, March 28th
7pm
213 Gregory Hall
Free and open to the public! |
On Tuesday, March 28th, the PRC will be hosting Professor Francis A. Boyle in a presentation entitled, “The National Case to Impeach President George Bush, Jr.” The event will begin at 7pm in U of I’s Gregory Hall. A facilitated discussion will follow Professor Boyle’s presentation. The event is free and open to the public.
President Bush, Jr. was returned to the U.S. presidency by voters convinced of his moral and leadership qualities. But his moral failures were exposed through the Downing Street Memo's proof of systematic lying concerning Iraq's possession of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) and their connection to al-Qaeda.
And now, his leadership on the domestic front has been proved to be criminally negligent in response to the ravages of Hurricane Katrina. Only impeachment offers Americans a swift and appropriate recourse.
With Professor Boyle’s extensive legal knowledge and experience, he will explain how and why George W. Bush should be impeached for lying in leading the nation to war in Iraq. He will also address why President Bush, Vice President Cheney, and Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff should be impeached for denying Equal Protection of the Laws to the Katrina Victims because of their race/ethnicity and economic statuses, in violation of the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution.
The impeachment of Bush, Jr. has been under review ever since Professor Boyle and former Attorney General Ramsey Clark brought the issue before Congressman John Conyers and an assembly of Washington lawyers prior to Operation Iraqi Freedom, and presided over their revisions of the same. These impeachment drafts are included in Professor Boyle's book, "Destroying World Order," which also addresses U.S. assistance to Iraq during the Iran/Iraq war, U.S. conduct of the 1990 Gulf War, and the recent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq in relation to their violation of the laws of neutrality, humanitarian law, the laws of war, and the law of the U.S. Constitution.
Francis A. Boyle is a leading American expert in international law. He was responsible for drafting the Biological Weapons Anti-Terrorism Act of 1989, the American Implementing Legislation for the 1972 Biological Weapons Convention. He served on the Board of Directors of Amnesty International (1988-1992), and represented Bosnia-Herzegovina at the World Court. Professor Boyle teaches International Law at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His books include "The Future of International Law and American Foreign Policy" and "Foundations of World Order: The Legalist Approach to International Relations 1898-1921." He holds a Doctor of Law Magna Cum Laude as well as a Ph.D. in Political Science, both from Harvard University.
The event is being cosponsored by: Activist Forum, Anti-War Anti-Racism Effort (AWARE), Campus Greens, Graduate and Professional Students of Color, Illinois Disciples Foundation, National Organization for Women (UI Chapter), School for Designing A Society, and Vietnam Veterans Against the War (CU Chapter).
The event will be held at Gregory Hall in Room 213. Gregory Hall is located on the southwest corner of the University of Illinois Quad. Gregory Hall centrally located on the U of I campus and is located on several CU-MTD bus routes. The event is wheelchair accessible.
The Progressive Resource/Action Cooperative (PRC) is a multi-issue, multi-tactical activist organization. The PRC is a program of the Illinois Disciples Foundation and a Registered Student Organization at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
