Some of our neighbors were wanting me to post the lyrics to a new song I've written especially for our new Urbana Uber-store out on High Cross Road.
Here they are: |
STRIP MALL
Give me acres and acres of parking lot.
Let it bake in the blistering sun when it's hot,
And the rest of the city can sit there and rot,
'Cause I've got to drive out to the strip mall...
And get me some gewgaws and knick-knacks from faraway lands,
All identically made by invisible hands
So they can roll back the price on the premium brands.
What a steal! Your Happy Meal at the strip mall...
Oh yeah, give me plasticky junk where my life used to be!
Have you seen these new gizmos? They're virtually free.
Let me cram a few more in the old S. U. V.
What a haul! Got it all at the strip mall...
Aw, hell, who needs breatheable air or a livable wage?
Can't you see our economy's turning a page,
As we bomb half the world back into the stone age--
Never fear! They've got beer--at the strip mall. |

It is really good. Pitiful, that it is impossible to post here music notation. I am sure that it should be even better with it, but even as it is, it is very bright and impressive. |
