- Data documenting that times have been tough for the quarter of America's families with incomes below $30,000 - shrinking wages, and increasing struggles to pay for housing, health care, food, and heat. These are the forgotten fourth.
- Congress' and the Bush Administration's repeated decisions to favor special interests - drug companies, HMOs, bankers, the well-heeled and well-connected - over the forgotten fourth, and over many other Americans.
- The consequences of these decisions - how people are hurt by decisions to cut.
- Reminders of failures to serve the public interest - Katrina, Medicare prescription drugs, and freezing IRS refunds for low-income people. And a reminder of how many people benefit when government gets it right - as it did with disaster relief food stamps. |
