"Rising to the Challenge: Pursuing Justice in Dangerous Times," March 24-26, 2006, Chicago |
The largest and oldest progressive legal organization in the U.S. will focus its annual Midwest conference on activism and repression.
One workshop, "Campus Crackdown," will bring together students, faculty, lawyers, and legal workers to oppose neo-McCarthyism threatening academic freedom.
A major panel, "Defending & Encouraging Activist Movements During the Chill," will put illegal government tactics under the microscope, and help activists defend their rights to organize for a better future.
"Rising to the Challenge: Pursuing Justice in Dangerous Times," the 2006 Midwest Regional Conference of the National Lawyers Guild, will be held at Chicago-Kent College of Law, Friday, March 24 through Sunday, March 26, 2006.
Registration required. Email: contactnlgchicago (at) yahoo.com. Phone: 312-913-0039.
The Guild was founded in 1937 as an alternative to the American Bar Association, which was still racially-segregated. The Guild is the only legal organization in the U.S. that admits jailhouse lawyers, law students, and legal workers to full voting membership. |
