The SHORTWAVE REPORT 1/6/06 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY! Current rating: 0
05 Jan 2006
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion, recorded from a shortwave radio. With times and freqs for listening at home. 2 files- broadcast and slow-modem streaming. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Cuba, China, and Russia.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (January 6) is up at the website
< http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml >in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:48)

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, China Radio International, and the Voice of Russia.
From NETHERLANDS- The French government lifted a curfew that followed rioting in November, but it is not clear that the sources of the rebellion have been addressed. The Colombian rebel group FARC has rejected a proposal to exchange hostages for prisoners held by President Uribe, which may hurt his reelection campaign. Bolivia's new President Morales is very publicly teaming up with Venezuela's President Chavez to fight neo-liberalism and imperialism, along with Cuba, Brazil, and to a lesser extent, Argentina.
From CUBA- Zapatista rebels in Mexico have begun a caravan tour of the entire country to create a national movement that leader Marcos says will turn the country "on its head." Then a Viewpoint on the poverty in El Salvador, which the majority of citizens believe is caused by the dollarization of the economy and 2 devastating earthquakes in 2005.
From CHINA- Argentina has finished repaying its debt to the IMF, recovering its autonomy and making its own economic decisions- Brazil is also planning to pay off its debt. Russia and Ukraine reached a settlement over natural gas pricing, which had led Russia to shut off a pipeline that also supplies Western Europe.
From RUSSIA- Russia had accused Ukraine of stealing natural gas from the pipelines passing through its country, something that was left out of the western coverage of the dispute, and Russia's excuse for shutting off the gas.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via <http://www.kzyx.org >
There are several other streams that work better- < http://www.freakradio.org >Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am (PST)
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- <http://www.partytown.com/radio

I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)

       ¡FurthuR!      Dan Roberts
"Common people only appear [on the news] for a moment-- when they kill someone, or when they die. This can't go on.... By not having to answer to the monster media monopolies, the independent media have a lifework, a political project and purpose: to let the truth be known. This is more and more important in the globalization process. This truth becomes a knot of resistance against the lie."
--Subcommandante Marcos, 1997
