Midwest Street Medics Training 2/24 + 2/25

Hey folks,

I am organizing a Street Medics training which will be in Chicago on February 24th and 25th at a location to be announced. The trainers are Catherine and Brian from On the Ground, a medical affinity group in Syracuse, NY. They are both experienced street medics and trainers, and did medical in numerous protests including the RNC, the Inauguration, A16 in DC, and much much more.

Their training will cover street first aid and chemical weapons decontamination protocol, as well as extensive roleplays and assessments. It will last at least six hours each day, and possibly more like eight, so please set aside the whole weekend if possible. We are still determining expenses but it will likely be sliding scale up to $30. Nobody, of course, will be turned away for lack of funds.

We are also looking for folks not attending the training to participate in the roleplays as protesters or cops. Please let me know if you are interested.

I will send more information on the training at a future time, but I wanted to let make sure you guys set the dates aside, because I know how busy things get. Please pass this information on to your contacts in the Midwest (we have people interested in coming from as far as Madison, Cleveland and Louisville) and forward it to whatever e-mail lists you're on, tell them to contact me at: yael (at) dojo.tao.ca for more info.

Thanks so much for your interest. I look forward to seeing you at the end of next month.

Yael

Very regrettably, the Miami police used both
tear gas and pepper spray at the protestors
who decried the FTAA in November 2003. An almost total broadcast news
blackout kept the public from seeing the
protestors injured by such chemicals used
by the police force.

The effects of these chemicals may linger
for some protestors for at least 12 weeks!!!!!
