Global Passive Resistance Initiative for Peace on Planet Earth |
ANNOUNCEMENT TO THE PEOPLE OF EARTH
Global Passive Resistance Initiative for Peace on Planet Earth
On the day a war is declared and for the duration thereof and until it has ceased, you, an inhabitant of this planet, Earth, can address your concerns by participating in an act of passive communication which will symbolise your discomfort with those decisions being made and actioned upon by others.
The RIP on Planet Earth philosophy is simple, silent, non-threatening, uniform, progressive and decisive. It requires no forming of groups or demonstrations nor signatures, nor voicing of individual or collective concerns to governments or engaging in public displays of emotional and intellectual confrontation. It requires no technology, no use of energy, power or mechanically operated device.
This announcement comes to you in anticipation of impending war. If you choose to participate, you should begin your involvement only when, and not before, an announcement to engage in war is made public. This will ensure the impact of your action is maximised. The 48 members of the RIP on Planet Earth Executive Council have deliberated for several months on all aspects of the initiative and wish all and any participants to execute the Resistance Initiative for Peace in the following manner for reasons provided at the end of this announcement.
In one simple, elegant expression, you will silently communicate your separateness and wholeness at the same time. You will communicate your individualism, your relatedness to and unity with others, your humanness, your sensitivity to the fears and threats you perceive are taking place around you and your feelings of futility at not being in a position to communicate your thoughts or concerns to those in positions of authority or control. Your participation will be part of a global shift in the representation of the mass - wherein the individual passively expresses and acknowledges its reliance upon and need of the whole. It will allow you to passively express your will to not agree with those actions taken and decisions made by other people of this planet who have been chosen to lead us and our communities.
Your participation will bring you no harm, nor anxiety, nor ill will.
RIP on Planet Earth requires no slogans, no images or sounds, pictures, texts or words. In fact, it is best if you say absolutely nothing. For it is your action, and the very nature of your action and its deep psychological impact to other inhabitants of the planet, that will communicate far louder than you could have ever imagined.
Your participation will be part of a history making event - a global act of passive resistance in which you, 'the participant', on the day war is declared and for the duration thereof until it has ceased, will choose to occupy a small space for a small period of time, as and when it suits you and for a period determined by you.
On the day war is declared and for the duration thereof and until it has ceased, you will choose a time and moment that suits you to sit in a cross-legged position, stand upright with your arms resting flat by your sides or in a position of stillness anywhere in public view : be it sidewalk, footpath, kerbside, park, nature strip, freeway siding, bridge, concourse, square, mall, building steps, museum, art gallery, theatre, promenade, lift, rooftop, shopping mall, supermarket, café, office complex, railway station or platform. Choose a place in which you feel comfortable with the amount of people who may see and notice that you have stopped and remained in that position. Peak activity times like 'rush hour' are best for maximum visability. Do not be afraid. Nothing will happen to you. Make sure you are not an obstruction to others by carefully selecting a position that will not interfere with their movement.
If you decide to participate with friends or family then try to make sure that each participant of your initiative is separated by a minimum distance of a ‘body length’. Do NOT sit or stand facing another participant. Consider arranging things randomly or as if you were individual sculptures or works of art. You are to be viewed as a separate entity or being and should therefore consider your position in relation to others.
This formlessness allows each individual a position of singularity and yet they demonstrate their relation to the whole by taking part in the initiative. If you are large groups, then start by choosing a first position and have each participant choose a next position by locating a ‘free’ line-of-sight until the entire group is spread randomly throughout the chosen environment.
It is important to note that the 48 members of the RIP on Planet Earth Executive Council believe that for maximum impact, participants should wear a neutral colour or white with absolutely no slogans, emblems, logos, diagrams, ID’s, pictures or statements of any kind whatsoever. This is of the utmost importance as your action is ‘the one and only communicating factor’ in this initiative. It is a moment when action will speak louder than words and the more active or busy an environment, the more impact your participation will have.
Just take up your position. Sit or stand calmly. Close your eyes if you wish. Try to remain quiet and still. If you prefer to keep your eyes open then seek something other than human – say a bird or tree or cloud or sky and fix your gaze upon that object. If you like, you can slowly follow the activities of those passing by with the gentle turn of your head. But keep your actions to a minimum remembering that you are there to communicate stillness. Try not to speak or acknowledge the existence of others. You are there to experience yourself and your relation to your little piece of earth. Stay fixed in your position for a minimum of 15minutes. Then when you feel you’ve had enough, move away and if you like, find another environment and another ‘view’ and start again. Repeat the process as often as you like until war has ceased. It’s really quite simple.
If anyone asks you what you’re doing you can inform them that your participation in this event is an announcement of your existence as a ‘Citizen of the Planet Earth’ and that you’ve decided to make ‘no comment’ with respect to the activities of the world other than to take a passive, non-threatening stance. Try not to engage in offering any political, religious or social views whatsoever. You could mention that you are one of many who are also participating in the event.
Remember that the ‘event’ or ‘initiative’ you speak of and participate in is an event of the self; that it is a simple, passive expression of your decision to NOT take part in war - to not engage in or agree with the use of force, coercion, acts of aggression or activities resulting in death and destruction. The final statement you make to non-participants of your relationship to the Resistance Initiative for Peace on Planet Earth is really up to you. You can use it for whatever purpose or expression you elect. However, the Executive Council devised it specifically for use during an act of war and wish that you, as a participant, would elect to adopt it for that one specific purpose only.
The 48 members of the RIP on Planet Earth Executive Council wish you well in your participation and would like to remind you that the endeavour is in no way part of any political, religious or spiritual organization or association whatsoever and that participants should in no direct or indirect way propose or suggest otherwise. You may begin your RIP on Planet Earth the moment a state of war is officially announced. By participating you will be acknowledged as one of the many tens of millions of other individuals who have chosen to express thier views by passive resistance and you will have made your place in Earth's history.
Please pass on this announcement to as many people as you possibly can, as fast as you can.
With the sincerest and best of intentions,
The Executive Council
Resistance Initiative for Peace (RIP) on Planet Earth
Important: The manner in which the RIP is conducted is to be at all times strictly of a passive nature. If a participant is asked by any authority or non-participant to move from the location he or she has chosen, they should do so without provocation. Participants should choose high density or ‘traffic’ areas in order to maximize their exposure and therefore their acknowledgment to take a passive, inactive role with respect to the global events taking place. Participation in this initiative in no way constitutes a forming of a social, political or religious group of any kind whatsoever. Each and every participant who engages in the event chooses to do so at their own volition. This endeavour was created, formed and enacted with no governing policy or framework other than the simple conditions expressed herein. The Executive Council was formed mid 2002 with the implicit and sole objective to consider effective and appropriate endeavours of a simple, passive and non r eligious nature for indi viduals to acknowledge their dissatisfaction with the act of war by means of a global unifying expression. The Executive Council was disbanded immediately following the acceptance by all members of the expressions, words, phrases and statements herewith contained. The consideration of clothing colour to be adopted by participants and in particular of the wearing of the colour white was only to express a need to maintain uniformity with the act of the initiative itself and because it is safely seen at night should participants choose to take part after daylight hours. Participants should make every effort to not cause any discomfort to any non-participant or authority whatsoever. Any other form of action taken by a participant that is not within the guidelines of this announcement is done so at the sole discretion and responsibility of the participant. |
