The SHORTWAVE REPORT 3/21/03 ˇLISTEN GLOBALLY! Current rating: 0
20 Mar 2003
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Germany, Russia, China, Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (March 21) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.2MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org
There are several other streams that work better- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm (PST) and on Monday at 9amPST.
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
IMPORTANT NOTICE- THIS EDITION HAS BEEN PREPARED ON THURSDAY, THE MORNING AFTER THE ATTACK ON IRAQ. AS SUCH, IT HAS ONLY 2 PIECES THAT COVER THE ATTACK AND IMMEADIATE REPERCUSSIONS. I INTEND TO PRODUCE A SPECIAL EDITION THAT WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD BY MONDAY MARCH 24 AT 9AM. HOPEFULLY YOU WILL FIND A TIME SLOT TO AIR THAT VERSION WHEN IT IS AVAILABLE. I WILL NOTIFY YOU WHEN IT IS POSTED.
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Deutsche Welle, the Voice Of Russia, China Radio International, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands-Opposition forces in Zimbabwe are continuing their strike against the regime of Pres Mugabe. Phone tapping at the EU in Brussels was discovered, with the US the likely culprit.
From Germany- In the wake of G Bush’s ultimatum before the attacks on Iraq began, world opinion was fierce and pessimistic. Then a European press review from Tuesday. The Geneva-based Int Commision of Jurists said that a US attack without UN authorization would be illegal.
From Russia- The Swedish ambassador to the UN stated that the majority of UN members were opposed to US war plans, and that the US was further isolating itself on the global scale.
From China- How significant is the so-called US anti-Iraq Coalition, and will this war reduce threat of terrorism at home? Then an on the street report about the response of the average Chinese citizen to the war.
From Cuba- Israeli Prime Minister Sharon has been accused of turning occupied Palestinian lands into a huge prison. Then, in Canada, anti-Bush sentiment is swelling, as the Prime Minster announced that Canada will not support a US invasion of Iraq.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
