Editor's Note: The OVIMC has just reported that all those arrested over the last weekend protesting police killings of African-Americans in Cincinnati have been released. There are still a number of people in jail from the original protests over the killing of Timothy Thomas back in April. The jail vigil continues in solidarity for them. ML |
- we are waiting on the last person to come out of the justice center after being bailed out, but the vigil will not end. there are 64 candles, each with the name of a person still being held in the justice center from april's uprising. many people have joined the vigil today, and in addition to the 64 candles for the protesters, two people came by with the desire to add a candle for their son and their friend, respectively, both of whom died while in police custody at the Justice Center. Black community leaders have been present today as well as many supporters from the neighborhood. here is some audio from today. there is a sign saying 'honk for justice', and as cars pass by racial divisions are verified by the differing reactions of white and black drivers. for while there is both black and white support, some white drivers appear incredibly tense when passing the vigil. |
