Federal Judges to Speak on Sentencing at ACS Chapters Across the USA
Throughout September and October, many of the American Constitution Society's law school chapters will participate in a nationwide ACS program called "Sentencing and the Federal Judiciary." Chapters will hold events at which speakers, mostly federal trial judges, will talk about criminal sentencing guidelines, mandatory minimums, and a judge's role in sentencing. See our events page for a list of national programs that are already confirmed; many more are in the works - http://www.ACSLaw.org/Events.htm.

These issues have spurred substantial controversy since the Federal Sentencing Guidelines and a range of mandatory minimums went into effect in the mid 1980's, with legislators, practioners, advocates for both crime victims and youthful offenders, and even judges taking strong public stands.
