!!!Rally for a free and fair union election!!! Thursday, October 17th Noon at the Swanlund Administrative Building (on John St. between 6th and Wright)

Dear friends,

Graduate employees at UIUC will have the opportunity this year to vote for the GEO to be their official representative in negotiations with the university administration. An election victory will also mean that grad employees will be able to get their first contract protecting their benefits and giving them a voice in their working conditions!

Help urge the university administration to sign a "Free and Fair Election Agreement" to ensure that grads will be allowed to decide for themselves how they want to vote in this important decision. The administration has yet to sign this agreement that would promise to refrain from intimidation and retribution, to stop spending tax payers dollars on anti-union lawyers, and to not run a misinformation campaign that would confuse grads about the GEO and the upcoming election. The GEO has already signed this agreement and needs your help in getting the administration to realize that this is something the community wants them to do.

In addition to local clergy, faculty, and others, over forty U.S. and Illinois State Representatives, Senators, and candidates, including gubernatorial candidate Rod Blagojevich and Representative Rick Winkel, have already expressed in writing their support for the agreement. You can sign the petition at our website (http://www.shout.net/~geo), just click on the "GEO election central" to get to the ally petition in support of a fair election. Come show your support for a fair election by joining us Thursday, October 17th, where we'll be delivering the petitions we've collected!

For more information please contact the GEO at 344-8283 or geo (at) shout.net.
