A call from the Anti-Capitalist Convergence Welcome Center says that people doing jail support outside the Judiciary Square are being arrested.
Elsewhere, the MGJ rally is starting. Debby Davis from Milwalkee was dressing up as the Statue of Liberty for a performance art piece. She was grabbed by the police and detained and searched because she had kerosene for her torch. The kerosene was conficated and the police are still talking to her.
Legal Update: 639 people arrested; 81 released last night-- most posted fines and forfeited a court appearance. Most people (350) were arrested at Freedom Plaza.
Arraignment of yesterday's arrestees is beginning this morning. People are slowly trickling out of the police academy. Most people are paying the fine or getting a citation without a fine. There is still a significant number of people doing jail solidarity, but they have been moved DC Jail.
People are still @ Blue Plains and "Building B" of DC Superior Court (F St. between 4th and 5th St. NW). Still estimating about 100 people doing jail solidarity. Eight people doing jail solidarity at Blue Plains have been separated from the rest of the group.
Demands of those doing jail solidarity: They demand to be brought to Judiciary Square, arraigned together, and have their sentences be "time served."
Legal concerns: One person in jail has Asthma and doesn't have an inhaler. One man with a broken wrist was taken to the hospital and then returned to jail
Court Information: Arraignments start @ 11am today in Courtroom C10 DC Superior Court (5th and Indiana NW). People are being charged with failure to obey a lawful order, a misdemeanor similar to a traffic violation. People are needed for court-support and are urged to call the Mayor's office and complain about the MPD treatment of protestors yesterday.
People who have recently been released from the Police Academy say they had to pay $50 and show an ID to get out. Some people who supplied $50 and ID were denied release. They said the FBI is inside the Police Academy photographing, video-taping, and asking questions of some of the arrested. |
