4th of July Parade Current rating: 0

AWARE takes to the streets with a 4th of July float...........Caring for our community!

Lots of community response to this years float but perhaps the irony was lost on a few!

AWARE and friends marched with the community on July 4th. Well over 30 people joined the Billionaires for Bush. The Texas oil man, the rich folks and the General all got to ride while those seeking justice had to walk behind.

Where's the money for our community needs?

Billions for war and pennies for our community was the AWARE float theme.

Plenty of Deception dollars were distributed to the crowds.

We appreciated having WEFT Community radio 90.1 FM right behind our float. Lots of great music as we marched!

George Bush led the way with his sign that said Mission Accomplished as well as the subliminal message: I LIED!

No trophy this year....but surely a good time had by all!

Thanks to everyone who helped make this a hilariously funny and meaningful event!

We definitely got more applause than boos, by a long shot, though the most common reaction seemed to be stunned silence. There was some real hostility out there, I think more than last year, but considering the in-your-face nature of the float, I think it's frankly amazing that we got the positive response we did.

It's true, I think some people probably missed some of the irony -- and it would have been hard to read all the signs -- but I think most people got at least part of it. The hecklers pretty clearly got the anti-war jist. Just about everybody got that much, and that's really the most important part.

Job well done, folks!

My hat's off to all who put the float together, made signs, and walked in trail, jangling their tin cups. We are truly reliving the days when alms for the poor have become mere boons given out at the whim of the powerful.

It is an honor and privilege serving with you!

I was at the parade too and found the crowd to be stunned silent as well. There was not much
sound in one of the quietest, eeriest parades
I've ever seen. The mood of the country?
