UC IMC Goes Underground -- Saturday, May 28 starting at 10am! Current rating: 0
26 May 2005
Well, the Urbana-Champaign IMC will go _halfway_ underground
this Saturday, May 28 beginning at 10am as we move into the
basement, errr, the ground floor at the new UC IMC building, 202 S. Broadway, the old downtown post office building.
Well, the Urbana-Champaign IMC will go _halfway_ underground
this Saturday, May 28 beginning at 10am as we move into the
basement, errr, the ground floor at the new UC IMC building, 202 S. Broadway, the old downtown post office building. Check our doors on the north, Elm St., and south side of PO, in the alley betwen it and Lincoln Square, that lead to the basement, errr, ground floor.

A Jammin' Cleanin' party will take place at the new IMC on
Friday, May 27, starting at 3:30pm and running for about three
hours. Bring your tunes and spin them while spiffing things up.

On Saturday, the moving party will do the Big Move from the
Main St. space to our new digs at 202 South Broadway. Please
drop by and help. It will be lots of fun and you can start
thinking about how you want the IMC space to look in the
future. Right now, we just gotta' move.

The Movin' Crew requests people help us by bringing the
following items:
your hands, lots of hands!
a pickup, trailer, or van would be useful, if available
lots of empty boxes for packing small items
cleaning supplies

refreshments will be especially appreciated by our hard
working Movin' Crew

Please note that the IMC phone number will remain the same,
344-8820. The phone will be moved on Wednesday, June 1, so
there may be a brief period then when you can't call the IMC.
The phone should be back up by Wedneday afternoon. We hope to
have internet access again on the next week or so.

More info will be posted soon.

Thanks For the The Help Moving!
Current rating: 0
28 May 2005
Thanks to everyone for all the hard work moving the IMC!

Thanks to the Jammin' Cleanin' Crew for getting the new space ready on Friday.

Thanks to everyone who showed up today for the move -- I lost track of the exact number, but it was somewhere around 30 people who helped pack up things, put it in pickups, and vans and my trailer, and moved it all into the new IMC space. In six hours, it was done.

With relatively little organization, IMCistas again showed their support for the long process of finding a permanent home. There is much that needs to be done to get everything the way we want it. Working groups will want to organize work parties as they can over the next few days. I will work with you to get the production room infrastructure set up. Please let me know what you need in the way of assistance.

The Space group will be deciding on internet service, as well as many other aspects of organizing the new space, at its meetings on Wed. at 8pm. We welcome your participation as we move forward to a bigger, better, more secure and useful UC IMC.

All IMC meetings and business will now be conducted at the new IMC. Our mailing address has been changed to:
Urbana-Champaign Indpendent Media Center
P.O. Box 953
Urbana, IL 61803

Our street address is 202 South Broadway, Urbana. However, the main door to the IMC is located on Elm St. We now have a new sign there, courtesy of some so far anonymous artist. In any case, thanks to the person who took the time and effoert to make it easy for people to find us. When the IMC is open, enter the Elm St. door, which will be unlocked. There is a doorbell at the inside door that you can use if you don't have a key.

Our phone number will remain the same, 217-344-8820. The phone will be installed at the new IMC space on Wednesday, June 1.

The hours the IMC will be open depend very much on volunteer staffing. If you would like to volunteer to staff or for the still unfilled staffing coordinator's position, please let the Space group know of your interest.

We need to clear the remaining detritus from the old IMC space on Main St. by Tuesday. Offers to help with this would be especially helpful. There is not much that needs done. Please let me know if you are available to help with this at any time between now and Tuesday.

People who still need to exchange keys to get one for the new IMC can contact me individually.
